Reading for a "story": activity
Instructions for the activity
The following activity is concerned with the achievement of coherence in order
that the writing tells a story.
A critical component of achieving coherence is the effective use of transitional
signals.
The two paragraphs prepared for this activity were carefully written to tell
a story. Deliberate use of transitional signals helps to achieve coherence. The
transitional signals have, however, been omitted. The list of all the omitted
transitional signals is presented above the two paragraphs. Your task is to fill
in the gaps by re-inserting the transition signals.
To do this, you will need to read the text carefully and decide which of the
transition signals appropriately fills each of the gaps. In each instance, there
is one and only one correct transition signal: go
